2012 Midwest Garden Grant Winners Announced
The National Gardening Association and the grandchildren of Helene and Mark Eisner., Inc. have announced 10 winners for the 2012 Midwest Garden Grant Award.
For three years, this award has been offered to states throughout the Midwest, providing more than $30,000 in donations to youth garden programs.
This year ten programs will receive $750 in garden supplies, an NGA literature package, and a plant donation from Proven Winners. This package will provide these programs with the necessary tools to either start or continue to engage children and build their knowledge in the garden.
The 2012 winners are:

- Middleton High School…Middleton, Wis.
- St. Joseph’s Home for Children Day Treatment…Minneapolis, Minn.
- Jane Stenson School…Skokie, Ill.
- Mithra Intergenerational Building Blocks Preschool…Highland, Mich.
- Lifeskills Management Center…Olathe, Kan.
- St. Bernard Catholic School…Omaha, Neb.
- Hills Horizon Summer Recreation Gardening Program…Spearfish, S.D.
- Lincoln K-8 Choice School…Rochester, Minn.
- Withrow University High School…Cinncinnati, Ohio

With the current attention on our nation’s health, gardening has become an increasingly useful tool in the classroom. Garden programs can raise youth to become leaders, empowering them to educate their family and neighbors on ways to bring healthier living to the community.”
