A Growing Trend in Shoes
If you were around in the late 1970s you might remember Earth shoes – those thick-soled shoes that made you walk funny. They were quite the fad in my high school at the time. Well, I just heard about a new kind of earth shoe trend that really has chance to grow. These shoes are much more stylish than the 1970s models and they truly are earth shoes “¦ eventually. OAT Shoes in Amsterdam in Amsterdam has developed a new line of shoes that are made out of hemp, bio-cotton, cork and certified biodegradable plastics. But what really makes these biodegradable shoes even more ecologically friendly is they also have flower seeds in them! So when the owners wear them out, they can bury them in the back yard and they will break down and turn into soil while producing new flowers. According to the company’s website, the shoes will not start to biodegrade while they are still being worn. The rate at which they will biodegrade is dependent on “the type of soil, the temperature and humidity they’re buried in.” When it comes to producing flowers OAT tells its customers “if you follow the instructions, you should have a fiery bouquet of wildflowers growing out of your shoes within days!” Currently, the shoes are only available in Europe but keep an eye on your local shoe store or garden center!
