As Seen @ California Spring Trials — Petunias Part 2 By Tim Hodson

In the last edition of the Culture Connection, I told you how many of the breeding companies at California Spring Trials had embraced the National Garden Bureau’s Year of the Petunia and showed you a sampling of the new petunia introductions we saw during the first half of our Spring Trials trip this year.

Today we will highlight some of the new petunias we saw on Days 4, 5 and 6 as we made our way south from Lompoc to Oxnard. The breeding companies have quite a few new petunia colors planned for 2015 so contact your suppliers to learn more about these new intros.

‘Espresso Grande Peach’ at Floranova

‘Crazytunia Stonewashed’ from Westhoff

Oro’s ‘Fortunia Orange’ at Dümmen

‘Blanket Yellow’ from Green Fuse Botanical

Ball FloraPlant’s ‘Suncatcher Blue Blast’

‘Easy Wave Berry Velour’ from Pan American Seed

Suntory’s ‘Surfinia Sumo Bold Lilac’

‘Glamouflage Blueberry’ from Hort Couture

‘Glow Peach Morn’ from Florensis

While the National Garden Bureau may have declared 2014 the Year of the Petunia, it looks like 2015 is also going to be a banner year for petunias.

If you haven’t had the opportunity yet, be sure to check out our Spring Trials photo gallery on www.CaliforniaSpringTrials.com where we have posted nearly 300 photos of the new varieties that debuted at this year’s Spring Trials.
