Have You Voted for Your Favorite?

Now that the 2014 gardening season is in full swing, it’s a great time to visit a participating garden and place your vote for the American Garden Award. Four entries are on display at 32 public gardens across the country (and Canada), and now that summer is officially upon us, you can see for yourself how these plants are performing.

The American Garden Award program is the nation’s only flower popularity contest and is a unique opportunity for the public to vote on a specific flower that they think has the most appeal. Voting is open until Sept. 30.

The four entries are:

Celosia ‘Arrabona Red’ (PanAmerican Seed)

‘Arrabona Red’ boasts masses of striking red plumes that last all summer. Heat and drought tolerant, this beauty works well in borders and containers.

Cuphea ‘Sriracha Violet’ (Syngenta Flowers)

This compact, well-branched plant presents colors in spring and summer, making it a great season extender. The uniqueness of the flowers offers depth and texture to gardens.

Digiplexis ‘Illumination Flame’ (Cultivaris)

A new foxglove hybrid, ‘Illumination Flame’ produces red-pink flowers with orange throats from May to October. It looks great in pots or borders, and is a long-lasting cut flower too.

Petunia ‘Sanguna Radiant Blue’ (Syngenta Flowers)

With a one-of-a-kind bicolor pattern, this petunia hybrid is a standout on patios as well as in garden beds. Featuring early and continuous flowering, it is ideal for high-end container programs.

Are you growing any of these American Garden Award entries? Which one is your favorite? Shoot me an e-mail at jdolce@greatamericanpublish.com, and let me know. Or better yet – visit a participating garden and vote!
