A Change in the Seasons By Tim Hodson

According to the calendar, spring is finally here!

It supposedly arrived last Friday evening. But as I look out the window this morning and see 4+ inches of new snow I really have to wonder.

It seems like this winter is never going to end and then, to top it off, I learned over the weekend that spring is actually going to be shorter this year – a whopping 30 seconds shorter.

Because Earth’s tilt continually moves on its axis, the actual length of our seasons constantly changes. Believe it or not, this year winter will be the shortest season and summer will be the longest.

And Spring 2015 will be a half of a minute shorter this year because the summer solstice will arrive 30 seconds earlier because our planet will shift ever so slightly on its axis.

While this “shortened” season is minuscule, it just doesn’t seem fair does it? Wouldn’t it be nice if spring was actually a little longer? Just think of the potential extra sales “¦
