It’s That Time of Year By Tim Hodson

It’s time for poinsettia trials and open houses.

The coming weeks are filled with events where growers and universities will be displaying their 2015 poinsettia crops.

This week Dan Schantz Greenhouse in Zionsville, Pennsylvania (Nov. 12) and next week Millstadt Young Plants/N.G. Heimos Greenhouse in Millstadt, Illinois (Nov. 19) will be hosting poinsettia trials open houses.

North Carolina is the place to be on Dec. 6 as both North Carolina State University in Raleigh and Mitchell’s Nursery & Greenhouse in King will be hosting open houses.

On Dec. 8 the University of Florida Poinsettia Field Trial Day will take place in Gainesville. The UF Trials have expanded this year adding educational sessions in the morning followed by an afternoon discussion and walk-through of new poinsettia varieties with Jim Barrett in the university greenhouses. To learn more about the program or to register to attend click here. Also, be sure to check out the GPN Facebook photo album for scenes from the 2014 UF poinsettia trials.

If you’re having a poinsettia open house in the coming weeks, please let me know about it at thodson@greatamericanpublish.com.

I’ll be sure to include it on our calendar and in an upcoming edition of GPN Weekly.
