Important October Dates to Remember By Tim Hodson

As we head into the last week of September, I wanted to remind you about some important dates that will take place in October.

Next Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. Eastern time, GPN’s latest Plant Health Management webinar will take place.

GPN columnist and regular contributor Raymond Cloyd at Kansas State University will present a free webinar on Insect Control Strategies for Greenhouse Growers.

During the one-hour webinar, Cloyd will look at what growers need to know about when dealing with Western flower thrips in their greenhouses.

Among the topics he will talk about are some of the techniques growers can use to identify and manage thrips including pest behaviors, insecticide and non-insecticidal strategies and rotations.

Even though the webinar takes place next week, there’s no time like the present to register. Just click here to go the GPN Plant Health Management webinar registration page.

The webinar is sponsored by BASF.

Another important October date to remember is Oct. 19.

That is the day that applications are due for the 2017 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year scholarship.

If you know a college student who participated in a horticulture-related internship program this year and might be interested in applying for this scholarship, tell them the deadline to apply is Oct. 19.

The 2017 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year will receive a check for $3,000; will be featured in an article and on the cover of the January 2017 issue of GPN; and will receive travel and hotel expenses to Cultivate’17 in Columbus, Ohio, as well as a complimentary full Cultivate’17 registration.

And just in case you didn’t already know, Oct. 30 is National Candy Corn Day. If you’re a candy lover, you might want to circle the day before Halloween on your calendar too.
