What’s Next for FLSA Overtime Regulations? By Tim Hodson

Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, a Texas federal court granted a nationwide emergency injunction prohibiting the implementation of the final Fair Labor Standards Act.

The regulations essentially would double the current minimum annual salary level for exemption from $23,660 to $47,476 per year (originally planned to take effect Dec. 1).

The injunction does not necessarily kill the regulations but delays their implementation and leaves business owners wondering what could happen next.

A court case is still pending with a summary judgment hearing scheduled next. Appeals of the trial court’s decision will also delay implementation. Click here to learn more about the judge’s injunction.

With this latest development and now that the elections are over, 2017 is shaping up to be an interesting year when it comes to labor issues.

Have you been keeping tabs on the Fair Labor Standards Act and what it could potentially mean to your business? If you haven’t you probably should — no matter how things are resolved it will have an impact on business in the new year.

If you missed GPN’s latest webinar in our 2016 Plant Health Management webinar series, you can now access it on the GPN website.

Last Tuesday afternoon, industry consultant Roger Styer of Styer’s Horticultural Consulting, presented a one-hour webinar on “Using Plant Growth Regulators Properly for Best Results.”

During the presentation, Styer discussed the basics of commonly used growth regulators, how to apply them and how to adjust for vigor of crops and weather conditions. He also shares examples of different successful growth control techniques, from plugs to poinsettias, to help growers control their crops.

Just go to the webinar page on www.gpnmag.com to view this FREE webinar whenever you want.

Also on our webinar page, you can access our October webinar on “Insect Control Strategies for Greenhouse Growers.”

During that webinar, Raymond Cloyd from Kansas State University addressed innovative techniques that growers can use to identify and manage thrips in their greenhouses.

And stay tuned; we will be announcing the dates and topics for our 2017 Plant Health Management webinar series soon.
