Time is Running Out By Tim Hodson

Have you registered yet to attend the 2017 Big Grower Executive Summit? If you haven’t, you better not wait, because time is running out.

The Big Grower Executive Summit will take place Oct. 1-3, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, just north of Boston.

Our theme this year is “What’s Next?” Over the two-and-a-half-day program, you will have the opportunity to learn about many of the critical issues that are affecting our industry … as well as your business’ bottom line. It’s also a great chance to network with your peers.

Among the presenters at this year’s Summit are Texas A&M’s Charlie Hall and AmericanHort’s Craig Regelbrugge who will be on hand to discuss what is happening with the economy and make sense of what is going on in Washington, D.C.

We also will have presentations from Becky Roberts at the Produce Marketing Association on today’s changing consumers; Frank Gasperini of the National Council of Agricultural Employers will discuss what is happening on the labor front; John Caltabiano at Farm Credit East will address how to effectively work with your banker; and Traci Dooley at Hortica will update us on the latest developments when it comes to insurance.

Jim Barrett, professor emeritus at the University of Florida, will take a look at the issues facing growers who are considering getting into the cannabis market; Heidi Wernett of China Horticultural Business Services will examine the opportunities for growers who might want to export to Asia; and Gary Cortés of FlowVision will discuss how lean flow can impact the different aspects of your business.

Click here for more information on the program.

We’ve also planned a trip up the highway to Loudon, New Hampshire, to visit the growing facilities at Pleasant View Gardens and the hydroponic production operations at lēf Farms.

The deadline for our early bird registration is tomorrow (Sept. 22), so why not sign up today?

You can register by going to www.biggrower.com/executivesummit.

This is the 20th consecutive year that the New York-based grocer has made the list. The ranking gauges women’s assessments of their organizations’ culture, leadership, fairness and other elements for a great workplace. “At Wegmans, we all work together and help one another, like family,” says Colleen Wegman, CEO.  “Being recognized as a great place to work for women is especially meaningful and a proud achievement we can all celebrate.”
