The American Floral Endowment (AFE) trustees met with several industry supporters in July when they convened for annual board and committee meetings in Aurora, Colorado. CEO of Welby Gardens Al Gerace and his son Dan led the trustees on a tour of one of the company’s facilities. The Colorado greenhouse specializes in perennials, annuals, herbs, organic vegetables and ornamental grasses. AFE Trustees also toured Tagawa Greenhouses and heard a presentation from Randy Tagawa. The trustees were able to learn how the company grows everything, from vegetables to cut flowers. The campus and facilities tour of Colorado State University (CSU) were held on day two. Led by Dr. Steve Newman, greenhouse crops extension specialist and professor of Floriculture, the tour began with an introduction to the Flower Trial Garden. The 28-acre park includes perennials, annuals, bedding plants and cut flowers. The AFE Board finished the day by listening to faculty and student presentations on research and program highlights at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. AFE also hosted a dinner for the trustees and guests from Tagawa Greenhouses, Welby Gardens and CSU. For more information, visit www.endowment.org.
