Alstroemeria

Inca alstroemeria is available in a variety of stunning colors, from delicate whites and yellows to rich shades of red and purple. Bloom time for Inca is May-October, and the series performs well in 6- to 10-inch containers.

Alstroemeria is typically grown in a 1- to 2-gallon pot, one plug per pot. The plug should be planted directly in the finish container just below the surface of the soil. Use a standard well-drained potting medium with a pH between 5 and 6. The starting EC should be around 1.0; gradually increase to 2.0 as plant develops.

After planting, make the soil totally wet. Do not let plants dry out for several days, as this will lead to diminished quality of shoots and flowers. Use drip irrigation if possible.

For the first three to four weeks after planting, maintain temperature at 58° F. This will stimulate growth of the rhizome and create a full plant. After initial four weeks, drop temperature to 55° F.

Alstroemeria takes between 12 and 20 weeks to finish depending on time of year. The plant needs longer day length in order to begin blooming.
