Are You Staffing Up This Spring? By Tim Hodson

Even though Mother Nature has been brutal to pretty much every part of the country this winter, spring is still going to arrive in 2014 – eventually.

Hopefully, the record cold and snow that has been bestowed upon us this winter will lead to a lot of pent-up demand from consumers for plants when spring finally does get here.

It looks like the Home Depot is planning on a good spring. Last week, the company announced it plans to hire more than 80,000 associates in its 2,200+ stores in the United States for the spring season – the home improvement retailer’s busiest season of the year. Earlier this month, the company said it would be adding 6,300 full-time, part-time and seasonal positions to its 180 stores in Canada.

Job opportunities will be available on a market-by-market basis, based on the needs of individual stores and geographical variance in climate. The Home Depot is encouraging college students, retirees, veterans and reservists to apply for the positions.

What are your spring hiring plans? Will you be adding new jobs in the greenhouse? If you have a retail operation, do you plan on hiring more staffers to help sell product?

Drop me a line at thodson@greatamericanpublish.com and let me know what the outlook is for your company’s spring hiring.
