Ball Announces Launch of Burpee Home Gardens ProgramSource: Ball Horticultural Co.

There’s no doubt about it: The edible gardening trend has taken hold and continues to soar in popularity. And with the current state of the economy, even more consumers are jumping on the bandwagon and growing their own vegetables.

In an effort to help growers become part of this increasing market and help consumers succeed with their own vegetable gardens, Ball Horticultural Co. will launch the Burpee Home Gardens plant program at the 2009 California Pack Trials. The new program, a collaborative effort between W. Atlee Burpee Co. and Ball Horticultural Co., will offer Burpee-branded, garden-ready plants at retail garden centers in select markets in 2009 and nationally in 2010.

Included in the assortment will be exclusive Burpee varieties that have not previously been available in plant form at retail.

The varieties are marketed as easy-to-plant, easy-to-tend, long-yielding tasty vegetables and herbs, making home gardening more rewarding and enjoyable.

“Burpee is the most well-known brand in home gardening”¦that stands for confidence and success to the home gardener,” said Diane Hund, Ball’s director of marketing. “This is the perfect time to launch a really strong brand into a really fast-growing category.”

The new products will be on display at Pack Trials during the Ball Solutions Showcase March 28 to April 3 in Santa Paula, Calif. For more information, contact your Ball Sales Rep or call (800) 879-BALL.
