Two new additions to the Hardy Jewels series, ‘Pink Sapphire’ and ‘Desert Coral’, offer large, jewel-toned flowers. Both varieties perform well in Zones 6 through 9, and require full sun.

‘Pink Sapphire’ has hot-pink flowers with white eyes. A low-growing, upright plant, this variety blooms for five months out of the year. The average size is 16 inches wide and 14 inches tall. It is a self-cleaning plant, making it ideal for mixed beds, containers and borders.

‘Desert Coral’ has flowers of sun-tanned peach and coral that bloom for months and months. The old flowers are covered quickly, so the plant does not have a rest period during the summer and fall months. The average size is 14 inches wide and 9 inches tall.

Grow with 55 to 60° F nights and 60 to 70° F days. Pinch at transplanting. Provide night interruption to force flowering under natural short days. Supplemental lighting during cloudy days has proven beneficial for flower production. For highest quality, bring in liners in fall to bulk for early spring sales.
