Cornell’s Bridgen Named Fulbright Scholar
Mark Bridgen, the director of Cornell University’s Long Island Horticulture Research and Extension Center, has been named a 2013 Fulbright Scholar.
According to an article in the Cornell Chronicle, Bridgen plans to take a sabbatical in September to work at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile. While he is there, Bridgen will teach two classes and conduct research on breeding native Chilean plants and plant tissue culture.
Bridgen has been studying Chilean plants for nearly 30 years and has visited the country approximately 20 times during his career.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship program in international educational exchange. It was proposed to the U.S. Congress in 1945 by then freshman Senator J. William Fulbright.
