The grass is greener … Ornamental grasses are an important choice for gardens, landscapes and ecological applications. These perennials are low maintenance once established, with many varieties boasting drought tolerance, pest and disease resistance and the ability to grow well in poor soils. That, coupled with the variety of growth habits, foliage and flower colors, gives ornamental grasses a place in almost any planting design.
Grasses are also shining stars in restoration projects, helping to improve erosion control, meadows and prairies, and are often implemented in naturalizing efforts as well. This paves the way for more research and breeding work within the space, providing more and better options all the time for growers and retailers.
These outlets provide many sales leads for those interested in incorporating grasses into their offerings. If you are currently producing ornamental grasses, I’d be interested to learn more about the varieties and what new/improved traits you hope to find in new releases.
