March 22, 2011 - 00:00

Dianthus Diabunda, a new series for 2011, is a long bloomer producing flowers spring through fall. It has a uniform, compact habit. Six colors are available: Pink Pearl, Purple, Purple Picotee, Red, Red Picotee and Rose.
Plants are ready for transplant six to seven weeks from a 288 plug tray. Keep media pH between 5.5 and 5.8 and EC between 1.25 and 1.5. Provide 3,500 to 4,500 foot-candles to hasten flower development. Long days may enhance growth.

Maintain temperature at 62 to 65° F days and 65 to 68° F nights, with a 5 to 10 degree negative DIF from 5 to 9 a.m. Alternate between wet and medium moisture levels. Allow media to approach medium moisture between re-saturating to wet.

Under high light conditions, apply an ammonium-based feed (17-5-17) at 100- to 150-ppm nitrogen. Under low light conditions, apply a calcium-based feed (14-4-14) at 100- to 150-ppm nitrogen.
If needed, apply either one to two sprays of Bonzi (paclobutrazol) at 5 to 8 ppm, Sumagic (uniconazol) at 3 to 5 ppm or B-Nine (daminozide) at 2,500 to 3,000 ppm.
