Diascia

New for 2014, the Sundiascia series features three diascia varieties that boast a showy form. They have a unique, upright habit and tall, sturdy flower spikes. Sundiascia varieties are bred for improved heat tolerance. Three colors are currently available: Upright Blush Pink, Upright Orange and Upright Rose Pink.

These plants will reach 12 to 15 inches tall and spread 18 to 20 inches. They are suited for pots and landscapes and also work great as a thriller in combinations.

Using a well-drained peat/perlite mix is recommended. Maintain pH of 5.6 to 6.0. Apply constant feed at 200 ppm with a complete water-soluble fertilizer. Maintain moderately moist soil. Recommended temperatures are 70 to 75° F days and 60° F nights.

A 4-inch pot (one liner) will be ready in five to seven weeks, a 6-inch pot (one to two liners) will be ready in seven to nine weeks, and a 10-inch basket (four to five liners) will be ready in nine to 11 weeks.

Pests to watch for are mites and aphids. Botrytis can become a problem on finished flowers and foliage.
