Did You Know?
This week is National Farmers Market Week.
This is the 15th year that the United States Department of Agriculture has officially recognized farmers markets. In June, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack issued an official proclamation declaring Aug. 3 to Aug 9, as National Farmers Week and he “encourage[d] the American people to celebrate farmers markets with appropriate observances and activities.”
Many greenhouse growers have begun taking advantage of farmers markets to sell their products directly to consumers. These farmers markets offer consumers fresh, affordable, convenient, and healthful products sold directly from the grower. They also offer additional market opportunities for local producers, especially smaller or newer operations.
“National Farmers Market Week is a great opportunity for farmers markets across the country to host special events to showcase all the tremendous services they provide,” Vilsack said.
Does your company particpate in farmers markets? What types of products are you selling? Edibles? Annuals? Perennials? Cut flowers? What kind of feedback do you get at these markets? Drop me a line at thodson@greatamericanpublish.com and let me know.
