With the increased consumer demand for blueberries and the trend toward edible landscapes, Fall Creek Farm & Nursery, Inc. has unveiled its newest addition to the BrazelBerries Collection, Blueberry Glaze.

Blueberry Glaze has glossy dark green leaves and a compact growth habit. At first glance, it looks almost  boxwood-like and easily can be sheared and used in much the same way – except it bears dark blue fruit.

According to Jerry Brown, the marketing and business development director at Fisher Farms, one of the licensed growers of the BrazelBerries Collection, Blueberry Glaze is "attractive, compact and produces abundant clusters of small delicious berries — all the features gardeners and retailers have been waiting for.“

As an ornamental, Blueberry Glaze makes an excellent accent in the landscape or simply pruned into a hedge. Due to its compact size, Blueberry Glaze works well in small spaces and in decorative containers to bring color and fruit to patios, decks and balconies.  It’s best suited for zones 5-8.

In the spring, Blueberry Glaze presents white flowers with splashes of pink that contrast beautifully with the deep green leaves. During mid-summer, small, almost lime-colored berries emerge turning first to a burgundy color before fully ripening to nearly black in color.

Initial quantities of Blueberry Glaze will be available in 2014 exclusively to independent garden centers through the BrazelBerries network of wholesale growers. The growers will offer retail-ready Blueberry Glaze plants in a branded one-gallon or larger containers with an informative tag.
