FPO Campaign Promotes Flower PowerSource: Flower Promotional Organization

The Flower Promotion Organization (FPO) is blazing a new trail to raise consumer’s awareness of the many benefits of surrounding themselves with soothing, fresh and fragrant flowers.

During the entire month of February, American Airlines’ Sky Radio will broadcast on all 129,000 American Airlines flights an interview given by Stan Pohmer, executive director of FPO, discussing the emotional perks of having fresh-cut flowers in the home and workplace. The information stems from Harvard Medical School research conducted by Dr. Nancy Etcoff. Some of the study’s findings include the following revelations:

  • People feel more compassionate toward others, have less worry and anxiety, and feel less depressed when flowers are present in their home.
  • Flowers demonstrate a calming energy for those who want to achieve that effect at home or work.
  • There was also evidence of a carryover effect, in which people who had flowers in their homes felt more energized and compassionate in the workplace, too.
  • Research suggests that people often feel more down in the morning hour and flowers can help them overcome morning blues.

All floral industry companies, associations and organizations have permissions to post this interview on their websites, with the “As Heard on Sky Radio” and the American Airlines banner.

The FPO is also promoting a similar TV spot to more than 1,000 local and cable television providers. In 2006, the organization ran a spot through identical distribution that was picked up by more than175 stations in 30 different states, reaching an audience of nearly 61 million viewers.
