Geranium

December 24, 2012 - 10:15

The Nano geranium series has a natural dwarf plant habit. It does not stretch, which makes the use of plant growth regulators unnecessary. Nano varieties develop a profusion of large flowers in combination with attractive dark leaves. They stay compact all season long.

Use media with a pH of 6.0 to 6.5. Levels below 6.0 may promote shoot tip abortion and allow sodium, iron and manganese to become toxic. Maintain EC levels of 1.5 to 2.0.

Allow medium to dry between waterings. Do not allow plants to wilt. Do not stress geranium to control plant habit; this will result in yellowing of leaves.

Maintain temperature between 61 and 65° F. Higher average day temperature will speed up the process. Higher night temperatures will promote earlier flowering and more compact habit.

Use calcium-based fertilizers at 50 to 75 ppm. Do not use ammonium-based fertilizers. Recommended lighting is 500 to 600 foot-candles.
