The Long and Short of It

OFA brought back its pre-show reception this year, an opportunity for Short Course attendees to meet and greet over drinks and hors-d’oeuvres. That way, when they took to the show floor, they could hit the ground running.

Booth spaces at the 2010 OFA Short Course were colorful and informational, offering attendees a glimpse at the newest varieties and products.

Tim and the other trade magazine editors (from left: Delilah Onofrey, Dave Kuack and Chris Beytes) participated in BASF’s trivia competition for a good cause.

GPN’s publisher, Bob Bellew, roamed the show floor with his video camera capturing scenes for Hort TV. Check out our in-room Hort TV at www.horttv.com.

The Garden Center Live! merchandising competition and interactive room gave attendees ideas on how to improve their retail operations.

Managing Editor Paige Worthy even got in a little plug for Lawn & Garden Retailer’s Merchandiser of the Year competition.

Charlie Hall of Texas A&M, Rick Brown of Riverview Flower Farm and Dean Chaloupka of Visions Group participated in a discussion of the State of the Industry study that GPN and OFA conducted.

Mike Porter from Nexus Corp. helped introduce the GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year during an opening reception.

Attendees at GPN’s “meet the editors” reception at DeepWood restaurant in the Short North district got to meet Drew Guffey, our 2010 Intern of the Year, who’s already working full time in Tagawa’s new facility in Estancia, N.M.

Paige and the rest of the GPN gang (from left: Kim Sammartino, Jasmina Radjevic and Amanda McAdam) kick back after show hours at Buca di Beppo restaurant.

Onlookers get into the spirit as they watch competitors go head to head creating displays during the Garden Center Live! merchandising contest. OFA’s Michelle Gaston took every opportunity to remind people about the reception.

Renae Bobbett and Beaver Bark’s new grower attended Short Course for the first time — and were happy to see Shanan Molnar of GCA, a familiar face!
