Looking for Pointers on Growing Poinsettias? By Tim Hodson

If you are looking to expand your knowledge on growing poinsettias including the latest variety introductions, then you need to be at the University of Florida’s Poinsettia Field Trial Day in Gainesville on Dec. 8.

The UF Poinsettia Field Trial Day is expanding this year. Now attendees will have the opportunity to not only see how the latest poinsettia varieties performed in Jim Barrett’s trials, but also learn about the latest growth strategies and pest management/control techniques for growing poinsettias.

The Field Day will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center and in the UF greenhouses in Gainesville.

During the morning session at the Hilton, Roger Styer, Styer’s Horticultural Consulting, and Raymond Cloyd, Kansas State University, will discuss managing height, crop tone and greenhouse pests on poinsettias and other crops. Pesticide certification credits are currently pending.

Morning sessions at the Hilton will be followed by a discussion and walk-through of new poinsettia varieties with Jim Barrett in the university’s greenhouses.

Attendees also will have an opportunity to learn about the latest greenhouse research taking place at the University of Florida with Paul Fisher and Carrie Harmon on such topics as producing profitable poinsettias, practical disease diagnosis, growing container edibles and training your staff how to water.

Registration is now open for University of Florida’s Poinsettia Field Trial Day. Click here to learn more about the program or to register to attend.
