RootShield WP Approved for Sale in California
BioWorks recently announced that RootShield WP had been approved by the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) for sale in California.
RootShield WP, EPA registered in August 2008, is a new and improved formulation of the company’s currently registered biological fungicide, PlantShield HC.
With this enhanced wettable powder formulation, RootShield WP should not clog drip emitters, drip tape or irrigation booms. RootShield WP provides preventive control of major root diseases including Pythium, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Thielaviopsis and Cylindrocladium by growing on roots and protecting them against damaging fungi.
It is registered for indoor and outdoor root disease control on greenhouse and outdoor ornamentals, herbs and vegetables, and has a zero-hour Restricted Entry Interval (REI) – the lowest REI of all biological fungicides.

Emerald Coast Introduces New Mixed Tray
Emerald Coast Growers aims to please with a new sempervivum mixed-50 tray that’s economical and easy to grow.
“Sempervivums’ low water requirement makes them an excellent choice for cost-conscious growers and consumers alike,” said Cheri Markowitz, Emerald Coast’s sales manager. “And our mixed tray is a great way for growers to get their feet wet in the product without making a huge investment.”
Emerald Coast’s new tray, introduced in response to a wave of customer requests, features 10 each of five varieties. Perfect for containers and rock gardens, the plants grow 3-6 inches tall and are hardy in Zones 3 to 11.
Possible varieties found in the trays include :
- ‘Cobweb Buttons’, with gray threads woven over the tips of pale green rosettes.
- ‘Forest Frost’, with light green rosettes tipped with gray.
- ‘Black’, with long, dark-purple-tipped fleshy green leaves.
- ‘Desert Bloom 2’, with deep gray-green rosettes highlighted by rosy-red centers.
- ‘Green Wheel’, with tight, fleshy leaves forming vivid green rosettes.
- ‘Red Rubin’, with large burgundy petals in rosettes around green centers.
Emerald Coast’s sempervivum mixed 50 tray is priced at $41.50 per tray, or $0.83 per cell.

John Henry Names New Sales Manager
Pat Bauer was recently named the new national sales manager of John Henry’s floral division. She will oversee daily management of the company’s national account managers selling floral products to supermarket and food mass-market businesses.
Bauer brings a wealth of knowledge and more than 20 years’ diverse experience in the floral industry to her new position. She served as floral director for the Kroger Company, building the grocer’s floral sales to make it the largest floral retailer in the United States. In 2001, the Produce Marketing Association recognized Bauer as Floral Marketer of the Year.
She also has worked as director of marketing for the floral division of Temkin International, Inc., and most recently as national sales director for Native Floral Group.
Bauer has served on the Floral Marketing Association and the PromoFlor Council. She holds a degree in retailing from Michigan State University.
