Ball Forecasts Hottest Hues of 2009
Purple. Yellow. Orange. According to Ball Horticultural Company, these will be the hot hues to watch – and flaunt – in 2009. Ball has been reviewing extensive color preference information as well as published data from leading color forecasters, and has designated rich shades of purple, energetic shades of yellow and bright accents in orange as the hottest color trends that will have the most impact on shoppers in Spring 2009.
Consumers will be buying rich these colors in every retail category ranging from fashion to home décor – including flowers and plants.
Ball continues to focus efforts on researching the end consumer and what drives their purchase decisions. “Focusing on what your customer is really looking for will be even more important this year,” says Director of Marketing Diane Hund. “Color has always been the No. 1 factor in what people purchase.”

Purple: It is a well-established trend that surfaced as a hot fashion color last fall. Purple Flash ornamental pepper from Ball has striking flashes of bright-purple foliage among the dark leaves that contrast well with small, glossy, black fruit. These heat-tolerant plants are great for mixed containers and in-ground plantings.
Vibrant shades of yellow: Pantone, which provides color standards to design industries, specifically cites “Mimosa” as its top shade of 2009. ‘Lucky Pot of Gold’ lantana has a unique compact habit that makes this item a top choice for small pots, baskets and mixed containers. Lucky’s gold tones will give gardeners energy throughout the season.
