Horvath Named PPA Grower of the Year

Brent Horvath, president and owner of Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. of Hebron, Illinois, has been awarded the 2016 Grower of the Year.

The award was presented Aug. 2, at the Perennial Plant Association Symposium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Horvath has been in the growing wholesale perennials industry for 25 years and has been selling to the U.S. and international market. He has not only been growing hardy and hard to find perennials, but also introduced many new perennials to the trade and published his own Sedum book in 2014 titled “The Plant Lover Guide to Sedums.”

A few of his main crops are Sedums, Ornamental Grasses and other plants for the Greenroof trade.

As a breeder, he has developed more than 100 new perennials, including more than 15 Geum varieties, Pennisetum ‘Redhead’, Penstemon ‘Pocahontas’, and 11 Sedums including ‘Thundercloud’ and ‘Pure Joy’. He currently has patented more than 30 plants with more pending.
