Career Development Event Links Students With IndustrySource: FNGLA

Two hundred and fifty Future Farmers of America (FFA) students were able to take a real look inside Florida’s nursery and landscape industry when they participated in Career Development Events (CDE) for Floriculture and Nursery & Landscape.

Pinellas Technical Education Center and the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association’s Pinellas Chapter hosted the daylong event for the second year in St. Petersburg, Fla. Middle and high school FFA students competed in two 3-hour CDEs with a real-world emphasis on the skills important to Florida’s industry.

The event was a mix of written and practical exams. Students were also required to complete a job application and determine how to manage a hazardous situation. The top five teams will be recognized during the Florida FFA Convention, June 11-15, 2007, in Orlando, Fla., with the winning middle and high school teams.
