Eco-Friendly Pot Available in New SizeSource: Ball Horticultural Co.

Ball Horticultural Co. and Summit Plastic Co. recently announced that a new size of the Rice Hull NetPot will be available beginning April 1, 2009. The first plantable, 6-inch Rice Hull NetPot is the newest addition to complement the six other sizes of Rice Hull and two other NetPot sizes, 7-centimeter and 9-centimeter pots that are currently available from Ball and Summit. In the coming season, all three NetPot sizes will be available for sale by Summit in Akron, Ohio.

The NetPot is composed of renewable resources made of sustainable, natural plant fibers that degrade in the soil over time. Summit produces PLA filling trays to fit the 6-inch Rice Hull NetPot. PLA is also made from renewable materials and is biodegradable and compostable.

“We are pleased to provide our customers with practical, completely biodegradable, environmentally preferable choices,” said Norm Belliveau, CEO of Summit Plastic Co. “The plantable six-inch pot addresses the desires of generation X and Y, not to mention landscapers – it’s quick and easy with no pots for the landfill.”

“Today’s consumers seek out sustainable options wherever they shop, and that includes their local garden center,” said Greg Trabka of Ball Innovations. “Ball works hand in hand with growers around the world every day to improve the environment and is firmly dedicated to growing a green future.”
