Educators Organizing 2013 Spring Trials Trip
Educators at Cornell University and Purdue University are organizing a trip to 2013 California Spring Trials. The tour will take place April 6-8, 2013.
Dr. Mark Bridgen and Dr. Neil Mattson at Cornell University and Dr. Roberto Lopez of Purdue University are planning an intense, educational and entertaining way to visit several of the key Spring Trial locations with fellow horticulturists. Participants on this excursion will travel from Northern to Southern California with experienced guides in a comfortable, luxury bus. This is the third year that the group has sponsored a tour to California Spring Trials.
Final details of the tour are still being developed, however the group plans to visit Syngenta Flowers, Garlic World, Speedling, Inc., Golden State Bulb Growers, and Sakata Seed during the first day. On the second day, visit are planned for Dümmen USA, Inc., Ball Horticultural Co and a commercial production greenhouse. On the third day, visits to Skagit Gardens, GroLink, and Fides Oro, which will include Ecke are planned. Many of these stops have multiple exhibitors at one location.
According to Bridgen, “the itinerary is jam-packed with the days beginning early and continuing at a fast pace late into the evening.”
The cost, although not finalized yet, will be approximately $550/person and includes hotels, bus travel, lunches and some breakfasts. Attendees arrive on a Friday and stay at a designated hotel near the San Jose Airport (included in the registration). The tour begins on Saturday, April 6, and continues until the end of Monday, April 8, near Los Angeles.
Participants need to arrange their own transportation to and from California, but a travel agency is available to assist with these reservations,
