Fleuroselect Gold Winners UnveiledSource: Fleuroselect

Since its establishment in 1970, Fleuroselect has brought the industry more than 140 outstanding Gold Medal winning varieties from innovative breeders. This year is no exception: Judges at Fleuroselect’s 15 European trial grounds have awarded annual Gold Medal honors to two exceptional varieties: Lathyrus odoratus ‘Villa Roma Scarlet’ from Hem Zaden and Zinnia marylandica ‘Double Zahara Fire’ from PanAmerican Seed. Varieties are available for sampling from 1st May 2010 as 2011 Gold Medal winners.

Sweet pea ‘Villa Roma Scarlet’ is the first Lathyrus odoratus to win the Fleuroselect Gold Medal; it impressed judges with its striking, bright colors, overall attractiveness and excellent garden performance. Flowering profusely from July to September, this American-bred scarlet beauty is the new empress in compact sweet peas.

Zinnia marylandica ‘Double Zahara Fire’ stunned Fleuroselect’s expert judges with its beauty, disease resistance and excellent garden performance. It boasts large, fully double flowers and is particularly disease tolerant, guaranteeing superior consumer and landscape performance.
