Dr. Harold Gray, former executive director of the National Greenhouse Manufacturer’s Association, died last Monday, June 8, in Mystic, Conn. He was 91.

In 1958, he became the vice president of the Greenhouse Division of the Burnham Corp. Later he became the chief executive officer of National Greenhouse Corp. in Pana, Ill.

“Dr. Gray was at the helm of National Greenhouse Corp. for a number of years and helped mold the strategic direction that resulted in the company’s leadership position in institutional greenhouses,” said Cheryl Longtin, chairman and chief executive officer of Nexus Corp., Northglenn, Colo. Nexus Corp. acquired National Greenhouse Corp. in 1990.

After his retirement, Gray was named executive director of the National Greenhouse Manufacturer’s Association.

“As the head of the National Greenhouse Manufacturers Association Dr. Gray was tireless in his efforts to promulgate greenhouse industry standards that enhanced the overall product quality of our businesses,” Longtin said. “His loyalties to the greenhouse industry and its customers never wavered. If a person is measured by the mark he leaves, Dr. Gray can rest well. He left our industry better than he found it.”
