Gordie Bailey Hikes Up Mt. Kilimanjaro for CharitySource: Bailey Nurseries

Bailey Nurseries' Gordie Bailey is raising money for underprivileged girls in Kenya by hiking up Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Gordie Bailey, chair of Bailey Nurseries, in St. Paul, Minnesota, is raising money for the KGSA Foundation by hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The money raised by Bailey and 25 other hikers will go toward building a large school and dormitory for underprivileged girls in the poorest slum in Kenya.

Bailey, who is 79 years old, told the Pioneer Press his age is not an issue; he’s trained for a few months and stays in shape – even having once biked across the country for charity. Bailey’s flight left for Kenya Feb. 4, when he will then travel to Tanzania for the six day hike.
