More than 60 growers and brokers attended a Syngenta Flowers fall field day in October at the Syngenta Discovery Center in Anderson, S.C. The event featured extensive displays of Yoder mums and asters, Goldsmith pansies, Syngenta Plant Protection products and Fafard growing media.

Visitors also toured the Fafard analytical lab, which processes water, fertilizer, tissue and growing media samples for customers, and Fafard’s growing media manufacturing plant.

With this year’s peat moss shortage, some growers are looking at growing media with less peat moss and more bark, coir and other ingredients. “We’re able to show them how we make these mixes and how our genetics respond to them,” said Jamie Gibson, technical services manager with Syngenta. “Customers talked with our experts across product categories, covering technical questions on growing media, consumer trends and color palettes.”

Liz Hunt, Syngenta marketing manager for vegetative, said Syngenta would continue to showcase its product range – seeds, vegetative, growing media and Plant Protection – at future events. “Syngenta has the product range and technical expertise to make holistic recommendations to our customers. We want to show how our products and services work together in order to provide our customers with the best growing solutions,” she said.
