Thomas Boyle, professor of plant and soil sciences at the University of Amherst and GPN contributing author, died Dec. 19, 2006, of renal cancer.

Boyle managed a research program in plant genetics and taught undergraduate and graduate students. Through his research, he developed and introduced a collection of ornamental plants for commercial use and authored many articles and book chapters.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and son, Samuel, as well as his father, a sister, two aunts, cousins, a half-sister, a sister-in-law and numerous friends and colleagues.
