Monrovia Wins California Trucking Safety AwardSource: Monrovia

Last month, the California Trucking Association honored Monrovia for the third year in a row with a Fleet Safety Award. To choose the award winners, safety professionals from the CTA Safety Staff review accident statistics of the top contenders and audit their safety programs.

Monrovia has one of the largest privately operated fleets of any nursery in the United States, with 17 trucks and 50 trailers, according to Lee Zwahlen, head of shipping. “From our 1,100-acre Visalia and Venice Hills nurseries, we delivered 2,400 trailer loads of Monrovia plants with an estimated 12,000 deliveries last year,” Zwahlen said.

The awards program judges companies on issues such as accident frequency, personnel and hiring systems, documented safety policies and procedures, driver-safety training, internal accident handling procedures, and participation in the association’s safety activities.

The California Trucking Association advocates sound transportation policies at all levels of government and works to maintain a safe, environmentally responsible and efficient transportation goods movement system.
