Growers, landscapers and gardening enthusiasts are invited to participate in the annual Plant Trial Field Day at Michigan State University on August 4.

Growers, landscapers and gardening enthusiasts are invited to participate in the annual Plant Trial Field Day at Michigan State University on August 4.

The program features presentations on the “Best of the Best” from Daedre Craig, trial manager, and Art Cameron, garden director.

The MSU Field Day takes place during the 12th annual Michigan Garden Plant Tour, which runs from July 27 to August 7.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about some of the superior new introductions and how they perform in mid-Michigan in unbiased trials. Plant performance, ornamental characters and special needs of plants will be covered.

There also will be presentations on the most recent research on the development and spread of impatiens downy mildew and up-to-date discussions on the evolving ethics of American gardeners.

Entomologists and horticultural extension specialists will discuss the latest news in pollinators, native insects, and pesticides such as neonicotinoids.

After lunch, there will be guided tours of the annual, perennial and vegetable trials led by Daedre Craig, Renata Reibitz (perennial garden manager) and Art Cameron.
