New Company Takes Plant Breeding in New DirectionSource: Centre Daily Times

Garden Genetics is a new commercial plant breeding company based in Pennsylvania. The company’s plan is to develop new plant varieties and license them to growers for production. This concept allows customers to create custom orders and provides opportunity for contracted research, a process that has not been easily accessible in the horticulture industry.

“New stuff in the horticulture industry will always have a market,” said Rick Grazzini, executive director of Garden Genetics. “Novelty sells.” With experts trained in plant breeding, Garden Genetics has the potential to build new plants and improve on the varieties usually found in garden centers, including ornamental, edible and medicinal plants.

The research facility opened in June and consists of 25,000 square feet of experimental space. To find out more, visit www.gardengenetics.com.
