Plant Research To Be Presented in San DiegoSource: APS

Plant health experts from around the world will gather in San Diego, Calif., for the joint meeting of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) and the Society of Nematologists (SON). The meeting will take place July 28-Aug. 1, 2007, at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center, San Diego, Calif.

“The program will be rich and full of diverse symposia and contributed talks and posters,” said Ray Martyn, APS president-elect and co-chair of the meeting planning committee. “We had a large group of volunteers working on the program and this meeting promises to offer an exciting group of sessions.”

The meeting’s scientific program will begin Sunday, July 29, with a plenary session that will offer new perspectives on global warming and food safety. Plenary speaker Diana Wall, Colorado State University, will provide insight on global warming in her presentation “Debunking the Great Global Warming Swindle: A Perspective on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service.” Plenary speaker Trevor Suslow, University of California, Davis, will feature plant pathology’s role in food safety in his presentation “Plant Pathology: A Key Discipline for Microbial Food Safety Cross-Talk.”

In addition to the plenary session, the meeting’s scientific program includes both oral and poster presentations and four days of sessions. The meeting will also include an exhibition, hands-on workshops and field trips.
