Proven Winners Chooses 2009 Mother of the YearSource: Proven Winners

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Proven Winners recently selected its Mother of the Year for 2009: Shirley Spade of Fitchburg, Wis., was nominated by her loving granddaughter, Angela, who has autism and calls Spade “the can-do grandma.”

In Angela’s 100-word essay about her grandmother, she writes, “I am filled with interests and passions. Grandma expands on all my interests – allowing me a full happy, rewarding, productive life. She taught me how to cook, cross-stitch, scrapbook and she even tried yoga with me! Grandma never thinks about what I might not be able to do, but what I can do.”

Proven Winners happily awarded this “can-do grandma” with 40 Proven Winners plants, Proven Winners plant food, a WaterWise kit and an iGarden T-shirt this spring. She was surprised on May 8 with a telephone call about her big win. Proven Winners commercials on the Weather Channel on Mother’s Day featured a slide announcing the winner.

More than 150 daughters, sons, sisters, husbands, daughters-in-law, best friends and grandchildren entered a deserving mother, wife, friend or grandmother into the contest. They are all winners, and to commend them for their dedication to their families, Proven Winners will be awarding all these wonderful women with a Gardener’s Idea Book, Proven Winners slide chart and a Mother of the Year certificate.
