Purdue Recognizes Miller
Dr. Marvin Miller, Ball Horticultural Company, will receive the 2005 Distinguished Horticulture Alumni Award from the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue University. The award, which will be presented during Purdue’s Homecoming Weekend, October 15, 2005, is given annually to alumni who have made notable contributions in their field.
Ed Ashworth, head of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue noted that “the reputation of an educational institution is a reflection of the successes of their alumni. Dr. Marvin Miller has a distinguished career in the floriculture industry, and we are very proud that he is a graduate of our horticulture program at Purdue.”
Miller joined the Ball Horticulture Company in 1983 and is presently the market research manager for Ball. His focus at Ball Horticulture involves studying the changing structure, conduct and performance of the ornamental horticulture industry. Miller is a frequent author and speaker on topics important to the North American floriculture industry. He also serves the industry through his involvement in the Society of American Florists and his collaborations with the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service and its Economic Research Service.
Miller is a native of Baltimore, Md. He received a B.S. degree in Horticulture and an M.S. degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. He received his Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida.
