Senate Rekindles Farm Bill DebateSource: SAF

The Senate was slated to begin debating 40 amendments to the Farm Bill last Friday, Dec. 14. The amendments will be split evenly between both parties, each side offering 20, according to the Society of American Florists’ (SAF) lobbying branch.

The compromise follows “a month of gridlock,” the SAF says. More than 250 amendments were filed when the Farm Bill was first brought to the Senate floor in November.

Key segments of the agriculture industry, including the Specialty Crop Farm Alliance, have lobbied changes in the new Farm Bill to better include them in the United States Department of Agriculture programs and policies.
