SNA Elects New OfficersSource: Southern Nursery Association

Officers of the Southern Nursery Association who will serve for the 2014-2015 term were elected during the 115th annual meeting at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta during SNA 2014 in July.

Officers of the Southern Nursery Association (SNA) who will serve for the 2014-2015 term were elected during the 115th annual meeting held at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta during SNA 2014 in July.

Richard May, May Nursery, Havana, Fla., was elected president succeeding Jeff Howell, Rocky Creek Nurseries, Lucedale, Miss.

The complete slate of 2014-2015 officers is:

  • Richard May, president, May Nursery, Havana, Fla.
  • Michael Hobbs, vice president/treasurer/director Chapter 3, Warren County Nursery, McMinnville, Tenn.
  • Norman Cole, III, director Chapter 1, Cole Nurseries, Pipestem, W.Va.
  • Joseph Napoli, director Chapter 2, Athens Wholesale Nursery, Athens, Ga.
  • Dusty Knight, director Chapter 4, Plantation Tree Company, Selma, Ala.
  • Jeff Howell, immediate president, Rocky Creek Nursery, Lucedale, Miss.

Newly-elected SNA President May holds two B.S. degrees from Auburn University: in agriculture economics and horticulture – ornamental production. He is a graduate of the Wedgeworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Class VII. He is an active member of the International Plant Propagators Society (2003 – present), chairman for the Gadsden County, Fla., Chamber of Commerce board of directors, a member of the board of trustees for Robert F. Munroe School, and a youth leader and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy, Fla.

The election, open to all active SNA members, determines representation from the four geographic regions of the association:

  • Chapter 1 – Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia
  • Chapter 2 – Florida, Georgia and South Carolina
  • Chapter 3 – Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee
  • Chapter 4 – Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas
