University of Florida Picks Top PerformersSource: University of Florida

The University of Florida’s Trial Garden has announced the top performers of this year’s spring trials. The university provides preliminary trials of many of the industry’s newest introductions. This year, more than 850 varieties, including 280 new introductions for 2009, competed for the top spots.

The “Best New Varieties” nods go to varieties with consistent, excellent garden performance over the entire eight-week evaluation period. “Outstanding New Varieties” indicate impressive performance. “Best of Trials” stand out among all varieties in the trial garden, and “Consumer Picks of the New Varieties” are the most interesting varieties as selected by consumers.

Ptilotus ‘Joey’ from Benary and heliotrope ‘Scentropia Dark Blue’ from Syngenta were the two highest-ranking new varieties and were also the highest-ranking varieties in the entire garden.
