OFA and Texas A&M Join Forces for Profitability Seminar
The Greenhouse Profitability Seminar is looking for people who are interested in earning a profit and staying in the industry.
The seminar, “Are you making money with your crops? Learn how to calculate costs of production and compare crops for profitability,” focuses on hundreds of crops, different container sizes, various bench spacing strategies, hanging baskets, retail and wholesale prices, while taking an in-depth look at how all these variables affect your bottom line. Three important areas will be discussed in detail on cost accounting, revenue calculation and profit determination.
Growers will learn how to use these numbers to determine how to maximize profits in their production facilities.
Attendees will experience and learn from a number of seminars about orchids; production research; Aggie Horticulture, a series of more than 20 Web sites supporting commercial growers and homeowners; Benz School of Floral Design are programs that will be showcased. Along with those are programs touching on topics like traditional and alternative disease and pest management, mixed containers, and herbaceous and woody crop production.
Speakers include PJ Ellison-Kalil, owner and president of Ellison’s Greenhouses Inc; Peter Konjoian, owner of Konjoian’s Floriculture Education Services and adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts; Terri Starman, an associate professor with teaching and research responsibilities at Texas A&M University.
The event will be held Thursday, January 8 from 9 a.m. to5 p.m. and Friday, January 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $95 for OFA members and $105 for non-members. The cost includes the seminar, Thursday lunch and the showcase. The location is at Texas A&M University, Room 202 Horticulture/Forest Science Building, College Station, Texas.
