OMRI Approves BioWorks FungicideSource: BioWorks

BioWorks recently announced that the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) has approved the company’s RootShield Home & Garden Biological Fungicide for use in organic production.

RootShield Home & Garden uses a patented hybrid fungus to protect roots of vegetables, houseplants, flowers, bedding plants, ornamentals and bulbs from many disease-causing pathogens. This beneficial fungus, which was university-developed and tested for more than 17 years, forms a natural bond that shields the plant’s roots from root-damaging soil diseases for up to three months with one application. This helps plants maintain a full, vigorous root system by encouraging faster development of roots, which in turn enables greater nutrient and moisture uptake.

RootShield is used by organic growers throughout the United States and can be used in rotation with insecticides, rooting compounds, fertilizers and most fungicides. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given it a rating of “exemption from tolerance.”

More information on RootShield is available on the BioWorks website.
