Since its inception in 1994, Chase Research Gardens (CRG) has expanded to include ten research greenhouses, outdoor production areas and the diagnostic laboratory. Now, CRG is adding a national diagnostic disease lab specifically for the commercial and landscape ornamental industries. Effective July 1, 2005, CRG will be accepting plant material from within the contiguous United States for problem diagnosis. Services will include both fungus and bacterial identification, pathogen resistance screening, as well as focused control strategies for specific crop or landscape problems.
The new Athens Select Web site (www.athensselect.com ) is the new go-to resource on the Athens Select program, for growers, retailers, landscapers, allied tradespeople and home gardeners. The site contains variety and cultural information for each of the Athens Select varieties and a listing of propagators for growers searching for sources of plant material. Retailers can also download and print POP cards to accompany retail displays and inform customers on the variety’s qualities and growing conditions.
