Deep Red and Tangerine are two new additions to the Horizon series of geraniums. They are compact with an excellent basal branching habit. Early to flower, they respond very well to growth regulators and tolerate a wide range of climatic conditions.
Transplant into a well-drained peat-based growing mix with a media pH of 6.0-6.2 and a EC less than 1.5. Keep soil temperatures at 65-68¯ F for rooting out after transplanting, then lower to 62-65¯ F for growing on.
Keep light levels at 3,000-5,000 foot-candles. HID lights can be used for day length extension to provide more total lighting during low light periods, which will make plants grow faster.
Practice a good wet/dry moisture cycle, but avoid wilting. Feed one to two times per week with 150- to 200-ppm nitrogen from 15-5-15, 17-5-17 or 13-2-13, and add extra iron if needed. Keep media pH at 6.0-6.8 and EC at 1.25-1.75.
For growth regulation, use sprays of Cycocel (350-1,500 ppm) or B-Nine (800-1,500 ppm) + Cycocel (350-1,000 ppm) as needed.
Crop time is eight to 10 weeks, depending on plug and container size, and total light.
