Welcome to the first issue of Big Grower, a supplement to GPN magazine that was designed especially for the largest growers in the United States.
Big Grower grew out of a brainstorming session with Jim Barrett, Dave Edenfield and Jim Snyder. It was one of those light bulb moments. The idea made so much sense, we were embarrassed we had not thought of it before.
Big growers have unique challenges, and no magazine in the marketplace was adequately addressing those special needs. While GPN contains at least one article per issue for big growers, even our oversized format does not have enough space for in-depth coverage of things like managing a fleet of in-store merchandisers, coordinating production and shipment on acres and acres of product, and balancing an increasingly precarious relationship with customers.
We know your time is very limited. So here’s our committment to you: Big Grower will only contain short, easy-to-digest articles that cover topics of concern to large growers servicing the mass merchants. No fluffy, filler articles about how to measure pH or what great plants someone grows. Whether we’re covering ideas from outside the industry or profiling a grower, we’ll never waste your time.
And don’t worry about wading through a 150-page magazine to find a specific article. We’re actually limiting the number of pages in each issue. We will always send you a magazine you can read in one sitting and route to the next person.
You’ve come to rely on GPN as your primary resource for the latest information about production, industry trends and generally succeeding in the greenhouse business, and soon you will rely on Big Grower in much the same way when it comes to marketing, mass merchandisers and anything else “big.”
This year, Big Grower will be mailed with the April, June, September and November issues of GPN. So if this is a pass-along, and you want to receive your own copy, subscribe online at www.gpnmag.com . That way, you’ll not only get all four issues of Big Grower, but you’ll also receive all 13 issues of GPN to cover the more technical aspects of production.
With E-mail only a few clicks away, it’s no wonder we get more feedback now than ever before. It’s easy enough to log in and send me your thoughts (firstname.lastname@example.org ), so please do. Take a few minutes to let me know what you think about Big Grower and if there are any specific topics you’d like to see us cover.
Enjoy and have a great season!
