While February may be the shortest month of the year, it is still a very busy one for growers.
Many cut flower growers have been and will be busy this month supplying florists and retailers with flowers for Valentine’s Day.
Fresh flowers love Valentine’s Day. Last year, growers produced nearly 200 million roses for Cupid’s Day. According to the National Retail Federations’ 2010 Valentine’s Day Consumer Intentions & Actions Survey, more than 35 percent of consumers said they were going to celebrate Valentine’s Day with flowers. And nearly 60 percent of the men said they would be buying flowers for their loved ones on February 14.
Valentine’s Day is the biggest holiday of the year for florists. The website About.com reports that fresh flower purchases will make up 36 percent of holiday transactions and 40 percent of holiday dollar volume.
Who knows? Maybe consumers will celebrate President’s Day later this month with flowers too.
But once we get through Valentine’s Day and President’s Day, spring is just around the corner. Are you ready?
